Some Interesting Facts on Old Klang Road, Kuala Lumpur

Old Klang Road is one of the oldest and most historically-significant roads in Kuala Lumpur. Several decades ago, it was the only link between Kuala Lumpur and Port Klang which is at the coastline. Today, its role has been surpassed by major highways but the road remains an important point of transport and communication for the Klang Valley, having been turned into a wide highway that can accommodate a large volume of cars. However, this is still never enough to ease the morning and evening traffic jams.

The stretch along Old Klang Road is mostly lined with residential areas with the occasional squatters. However, there are some upcoming dining areas such as Citrus Park in Mega Mandung, OUG, which seeks to emulate the popular ‘Bintang Walk’ in Bukit Bintang. As Old Klang Road has a large Chinese population, this is a good place to get traditional Chinese food. Of special note is that at the point where Old Klang Road begins, lies Mid-Valley Shopping Mall, arguably Malaysia’s most popular shopping complex.

Shopping

Old Klang Road’s most famous shopping area is of course, the Mid-Valley Shopping Mall. Located strategically right where the Old Klang Road starts, the mall is arguably the most popular shopping complex in Kuala Lumpur, with a large variety of shops and entertainment outlets. The residential areas along Old Klang Road, on the other hand, are where Pasar Malams, or ‘Night Markets‘, are frequently held.

Dining & Restaurants

Because Old Klang Road has a long history and many residents, it’s not hard to find and taste good cultural food here, especially Malaysian Chinese cuisine. Most of the restaurants you’ll find here are the traditional Chinese Kopitiams, though there are a few fusion cafes, large restaurants and pubs scattered around.
